Recommended water types for JULABO products

For this “Question Mark at Home” video, Mark Diener, senior product manager for JULABO USA, answers a popular question. Can you use water in JULABO’s heating circulators, water baths, chillers, and refrigerated heating circulators? Water is a cheap, available heat transfer fluid that can work for temperatures from 5°C to around 90°C. However, certain kinds of water, including distilled, reverse osmosis water, and deionized water, won’t work in your JULABO temperature control unit. Atmospheric CO₂ in these water types will absorb into the water over time and corrode or pit the stainless steel components. If you’re using water in your unit, we recommend softened water or tap water to avoid corrosion.
