What are natural refrigerants (NR), and which natural refrigerants does JULABO use in their refrigerated circulator products?

Natural refrigerants are substances that occur naturally in the environment and are used as working fluids in refrigeration systems. Natural refrigerants may include ammonia (NH 3 ), carbon dioxide (CO 2 ), or light hydrocarbons (such as propane).

The use of natural refrigerants offers multiple potential benefits, including improved thermal performance, leading to reduced energy consumption and costs and other benefits for the environment. Therefore, they have been seen as a more sustainable alternative to synthetic refrigerants.

Current JULABO NR units cool with propane (R290), propylene (R1270), and ethane (R170). Refrigerant choices could change with future product launches.
