What is JULABO USA doing to address the EPA’s evolving regulations on synthetic refrigerants?

JULABO USA is closely monitoring the ever-evolving regulatory changes regarding the phaseout and ban of fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases), including hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). We are aware that certain states are adopting regulation changes based on the Global Warming Potential (GWP) of the HFCs in their state, thus prohibiting the use of these refrigerants earlier than others.

At present, most JULABO units are running on hydrofluoroolefins (HFOs), an alternative to HFCs which have very low GWP. Europe is also experiencing stricter emissions standards with the developing EU F-gas Regulation, and as a result, our manufacturing team at Julabo GmbH has deemed it high priority to develop circulators utilizing natural refrigerants. Units are already in production and can be supplied with natural refrigerants on the following models and combinations: 200F, 310F, 449F, 450F, 800F, 1200F, 1200FW, MX-1800F, and MX-2500F. In January 2024, JULABO USA also introduced its first refrigerant-free Peltier chiller, the TE400.

All of our service technicians at JULABO USA have been trained by the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES) on hydrocarbon (HC) natural refrigerants, and we are ready to serve our customers already utilizing natural refrigerants efficiently and safely.

JULABO USA is also offering a Julabo Subscription® model, which would allow our customers to buy a unit and pay a monthly fee with additional service benefits and the flexibility to swap for a completely new unit after a period of 36 months, up to six years (maximum). This can be cancelled at any time after six months. I this arrangement, you can be guaranteed that your instrument is always up to date as it comes to changing EPA regulations.
