Fluid Volume Expansion in Heating Circulators
This Question Mark video contains a demonstration from our senior product manager and application scientist, Mark Diener. Mark illustrates the importance of sizing a heating circulator to accommodate fluid volume expansion at higher temperatures. In the video, you’ll see two glasses of different sizes with the same volume of liquid. If we imagine these as two heating circulators with the same temperature range and heating power, but different tanks volumes, you can see the impact of fluid expansion. As the fluid is heated to its set point, it expands and increases the fluid volume. For the larger container, the expanded volume isn’t a problem; it can easily accommodate the additional fluid. However, with the smaller container, the extra volume creates overflow or spillage, making a mess, and possibly a safety hazard. At JULABO USA, we help you predict fluid expansion volumes based on specific heating set-points to ensure your unit is sized correctly. There’s no need to worry about spillage or overflow with the correctly sized heating circulator. Let us calculate the fluid expansion and volume ratios for you.
